Program Summary: This collection of NACDL's best ballistics & toolmarks CLE presentations is designed to help criminal defense practitioners understand both complex scientific concepts and practical courtroom techniques behind cases involving firearms. You will explore the scientific evidence common in gunshot cases, and how to challenge the state's experts in such cases.You will also learn how to identify firearm toolmarks including land and grooves, chamber marks, ejection port marks, breechface markings, firing pin impressions, sub classes and more. Lastly, you will discover the flaws and vulnerabilities of the inferential ballistics process with respect to 402, 403, 702, 703, 802, and 803(18) issues.
