Program Summary: This special compilation program is designed to help criminal defense practitioners explore and develop specific strategies to employ before the sentencing phase in order to improve the result at sentencing. You will learn how to craft a strategy for protecting your client from the draconian sentencing guidelines so prevalent in today’s criminal justice system. This program will address the importance of having a full grasp of your client’s background and history, and how to use that knowledge to craft a strong sentencing memo. It will also cover personality and mental disorders, and how mental illness can be considered a mitigating factor in sentencing. Other topics that will be addressed include language and intellectual impairments, relevant conduct and prevalent mitigation techniques in drug cases.
