Mandatory Minimums

NACDL supports legislation to reduce the number of mandatory minimum laws and restore judicial discretion in sentencing.

On October 5th, 2021, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 73, a bill to repeal mandatory minimum sentences for certain drug offenses and grant judges added discretion through a “safety-valve” provision for others.
