In 2021, NACDL and other members of the Virginia Pretrial Justice Coalition advocated for the passage of HB 2110/SB 1391, legislation to create a comprehensive pretrial data collection system. NACDL provided verbal testimony in support of the legislation and facilitated contact with Virginia state legislators through a campaign on NACDL's Legislative Action Center.
On March 21, 2021, Governor Ralph Northam signed HB 2110/SB 1391 into law, establishing an unparalleled level of transparency and accountability in Virginia's criminal justice system and arming policymakers, researchers, and advocates with key information about issues that are plaguing Virginia's system.
