NACDL has been active in legislative efforts to reform Connecticut's discovery laws.
In 2019, NACDL supported SB 653, which would have required a more open form of disclosure to defendants. In 2020, Connecticut lawmakers introduced SB 402, which would have (i) required law enforcement officers to provide to the prosecutor in charge of a case any information they have with respect to a criminal investigation, and (ii) required a prosecutor, prior to any deadline for the defendant to accept or reject a plea offer, to provide a defendant charged with a felony offense with all available information or material that would be discoverable prior to trial.
