Juvenile Justice Reform

NACDL advocated for comprehensive juvenile justice legislation in Massachusetts.

On February 1, 2017, NACDL issued a legislative action alert encouraging members and advocates to contact their legislators in support of H 3079 and S 947, comprehensive juvenile justice legislation. The legislation would have raised the age of juvenile jurisdiction to exclude children under age 12; codified court and department policies on indiscriminate shackling and solitary confinement; improved the sealing of juvenile records; and allowed for expungement of certain court records.
