In May 2017, NACDL issued a legislative action alert in partnership with the Innocence Project in support of AB 414, legislation that would have required police to record interrogations of suspects facing homicide or sexual assault charges. AB 414 passed the Assembly but failed to advance in the Senate. In 2019, a similar bill (AB 107) was introduced and advanced through the legislature. AB 107 was approved by the Governor in May 2019 and went into effect October 1, 2019.
