In 2022, The Washington State Legislature considered HB 1169, which would have ended mandatory stacking of firearms and deadly weapons enhancements and eliminated “school zone” enhancements for many drug offenses. The bill would have also provided a process for those impacted to petition the court to reevaluate their sentences. Working with the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (WACDL), NACDL issued a legislative action alert to its members and advocates in Washington in support of HB 1169.
