Iowa’s Supreme Court allowed the state’s heartbeat or 6-week ban to take effect after it had been blocked by an injunction from a lower court. The heartbeat ban has very narrow exceptions for medical emergencies. Iowa maintains other bans at 20 weeks and after the 2nd trimester.
