Washington, DC (Aug. 1, 2017) - Grand Forks, ND, Attorney Steven R. Morrison was sworn in as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) at the Association's Annual Meeting in San Francisco on July 29.
Morrison is an associate professor of criminal law and procedure at the University of North Dakota School of Law, where he encourages his students to seek careers in criminal defense. He also maintains the Morrison Law Practice, a private criminal defense practice. Morrison is a frequent lecturer and participant at conferences, panels, and CLE events around the country, and he has authored a number of law review and journal articles, editorials, legal briefs, book chapters, and other related reports.
An NACDL member since 2011, Morrison has participated on a number of committees. He currently serves as a member of the White Collar Crime, Fourth Amendment Advocacy, National Security, and Sentencing Committees. In addition, in his prior role as Vice Chair of the Fourth Amendment Advocacy Committee, he served as reporter, preparing NACDL's 2015 groundbreaking report Mail Cover Surveillance: Problems and Recommendations. Morrison is a Vice Chair of the Amicus Curiae Committee and the founding co-chair of the White Collar Subcommittee on Conspiracy Law Reform. He also represents NACDL on the American Bar Association Criminal Justice Section, Officer-worn body camera working group. Morrison previously served as co-chair of the Officer-Worn Body Camera Task Force and co-chair of the Fourth Amendment Advocacy Committee.
Morrison has written and contributed to a number of NACDL reports, white papers, and amicus briefs, including reports on warranted digital searches and mail cover surveillance and amicus briefs in the First and Second Circuits. For example, he authored the NACDL amicus brief in the Second Circuit in support of Ross William Ulbricht in the "Silk Road" case. Morrison also volunteered for the Clemency Project 2014. For his distinguished service and contributions to the mission of NACDL, he was awarded the President's Commendation in July 2015.
Morrison graduated from Boston College Law School in 2007, and received his M.A. from Bradford University and his B.A. from St. Louis University.
