Illinois Attorney William Wolf Elected to Board of Directors of Nation's Criminal Defense Bar

Washington, DC (Aug. 4, 2017) – Chicago, IL Attorney William Wolf was sworn in as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) at the Association’s Annual Meeting in San Francisco on July 29. 

Next month, Wolf is opening the Law Offices of William Wolf LLC, a law firm focusing on the representation of people charged with crimes in the State of Illinois. Wolf has been a member of Cook County Public Defender's Office for over twenty-three years and is currently a Supervising Attorney of felony lawyers in the Felony Trial Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County. During his time as a public defender, he has represented indigent clients and defended a range of charges, including capital, homicide, and drug cases. Wolf is also an adjunct professor of law at John Marshall Law School, where he teaches a trial advocacy course. 

An active member of NACDL, Wolf has served four terms on NACDL's Board of Directors, including one as an Affiliate representative. He is currently active on the Death Penalty Committee, Forensic Science Committee, Fourth Amendment Advocacy Committee, Membership Public Defender Sub-Committee, the Social Media Committee, and the State Legislative Affairs Committee. In addition to these committees, Wolf also has participated on the Nominating Committee, Budget Committee, and the Executive Committee. He has attended over fifty NACDL meetings throughout the country since 1999. 

Wolf is a Past-President of the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (IACDL), previously serving as First Vice-President, Second Vice-President, Parliamentarian, and as a member on the IACDL Board of Directors. He is currently the chair of their CLE committee, previously served as Chair of their Membership Committee, and started IACDL's Annual Defending Violent Crimes Seminar. Wolf also frequently presents at CLE seminars and conferences around the country. 

Wolf graduated with his B.A. from the University of Illinois in 1990. He received his J.D. in 1993 from Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

    Nation’s Defense Bar Reiterates Opposition to Actions Against Law Firms – Washington, DC (March 18, 2025)

    The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) remains deeply concerned over recent executive orders targeting law firms, most recently Paul Weiss and Perkins Coie, and repeats its call to uphold the right to counsel and the independence of the legal profession. Despite a ruling blocking the action against Perkins Coie, the administration has continued to target law firms representing disfavored clients and positions, threatening the right to a zealous defense.
