New York Attorney Daniel Arshack Installed to Board of Directors of Nation’s Criminal Defense Bar

Washington, DC (August 12, 2014) – New York attorney Daniel Arshack was sworn in to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) at the Association’s 57th annual meeting in Philadelphia on August 2.

In addition to being the Managing Partner of the law firm Arshack, Hajek & Lehrman, PLLC, in New York, Arshack is a founder of The Bronx Defenders, a nationally recognized public defender firm in New York. Besides managing his internationally oriented criminal defense practice, Arshack teaches regularly at the Cardozo Law School Intensive Trial Advocacy Program and frequently teaches advocacy skills throughout Canada and Europe. Arshack also filed a pro-bono petition for certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of a death penalty eligible defendant, James Holmes, who is facing trial for multiple homicides in Aurora, Colo. Arshack is a past a past president of NACDL’s affiliate, the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Arshack is a Life Member of NACDL and currently co-chairs the Association’s International Affairs Committee. In the past, he contributed to the creation and co-led multiple International Criminal Law Forums in Victoria, British Columbia which were co-sponsored by NACDL. And in 2009, Arshack participated in an NACDL training workshop with Liberian public defenders and was involved with the planning for a follow-up training this past June.

Arshack has worked to keep NACDL abreast of developments in the International Criminal Tribunals and the International Criminal Court. He has drafted Board resolutions in favor of the formation of the International Criminal Bar, United States participation in the International Criminal Court, and the protection of defense attorney Peter Erlinder when he was arrested in Rwanda. Arshack has also served as the NACDL representative on the Governing Council of the International Criminal Bar and as an NACDL representative to the UN.

Mr. Arshack graduated from Brandeis University and the University of Stockholm in 1978. He obtained his law degree from the Antioch School of Law (now known as the University of the District of  Columbia School of Law) in 1983. In 1994, he completed post-graduate work in Medical Bio-Ethics and the Humanities at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and Einstein School of Medicine.
