Washington, DC (August 21, 2014) –  Milwaukee Attorney Deja Vishny was installed to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) at the Association’s 57th annual meeting in Philadelphia on August 2.

Vishny is an attorney at the Wisconsin State Public Defender Office in Milwaukee. She is the head of the statewide homicide practice group, an attorney manager and the Deputy Training Director for the Wisconsin State Public Defender.

Vishny has taught on the faculty of the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia and spoken at criminal defense and public defender seminars throughout the United States and in India. She was a guest lecturer at a Harvard Law School class, The American Prosecutor. Vishny teaches trial advocacy at Marquette University Law School and has taught at CLEs programs sponsored by NACDL affiliates, public defender offices, state bar associations, and law schools. 

She served three terms on the Board of the Wisconsin State Bar Criminal Law Section, and she has published articles in The Champion and The Wisconsin Defender. Her upcoming book, Suppressing Evidence, is scheduled to be published in 2015. 

Vishny has been an active member of NACDL since the 1990s. She served on the Association’s Board of Directors from 2005-2011 and has served as a member of the Indigent Defense Committee, including two years as vice chair. She has helped organize numerous CLE programs, including four annual meetings and multiple quarterly meetings. She was CLE chair in 2008-09, and has been vice chair of CLE institute since its inception. 

Vishny graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1980, with a J.D. and a concentration in criminal defense.
