Washington, DC (August 24, 2015) – Miami, FL, attorney Ramon de la Cabada was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) at the Association's 58th annual meeting in Denver, CO, on July 26. He has had the privilege of serving on the Board from 2012-2015, and is part of the White Collar Crime Committee, Fourth Amendment Committee, and Budget Committee.
He is a Life Member of both NACDL and the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and he served on the Florida Supreme Court Committee on Standard Jury Instructions for Criminal Cases. He has also served on behalf of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce as a member of the Juvenile Justice Board for the 11th Circuit of Florida. He was selected as vice-chair and chair of a grievance committee of the Florida Bar. Mr. de la Cabada has been asked to be a part of a Blue Ribbon Panel chosen by the Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS) (formerly the Florida Department of Insurance) to review and rewrite laws regarding bondsmen and has also been used as an expert in financial crimes by the U.S. Department of the Treasury in order to help the Dominican Republic rewrite its money laundering laws. He has provided expert commentary on criminal issues for CNN en EspaƱol, Telemundo, Univision, and BBC International.
Mr. de la Cabada was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1991 and is licensed to practice in state and federal courts throughout Florida. He has had his own practice since 1999, and he specializes in criminal defense, compliance law and strategy for corporations, and licensing/regulatory cases against some professionals. Mr. de la Cabada has been honored seven years in a row (2009-2015) by Florida Trend Magazine as one of the top criminal defense attorneys in Florida in its Legal Elite issue.
He has had the privilege of teaching criminal law at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida; hospitality law at Edison Community College in Fort Myers, Florida; and paralegal studies at Keiser College in Tallahassee, Florida.
Mr. de la Cabada graduated from undergraduate with a B.A. in English - Creative Writing and a minor in finance in 1988 and law school in 1991, both from Florida State University. He is married to Dianne and has a son Kyle and a daughter Gianna.
