Tennessee Attorney Stephen Ross Johnson Elected to National Criminal Defense Bar Assn. Board of Directors

Washington, DC (Aug. 24, 2016) – Knoxville, TN, attorney Stephen Ross Johnson was sworn in for his second term as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) at the Association's 59th annual meeting in Palm Beach, FL, on August 13.

He practices criminal defense at the trial and appellate levels with Ritchie, Dillard, Davies & Johnson, P.C. in Knoxville, TN. His work there focuses on defense of cases involving white collar offenses, major felonies, and other serious matters in both federal and state courts. He has argued or briefed cases before the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court of Tennessee, and several state and federal appellate and trial courts. He also works as an adjunct professor with the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he is engaged with the Innocence and Wrongful Convictions Clinic. Johnson is listed in Best Lawyers in America in the area of white-collar criminal defense.

Johnson has been a dedicated member of NACDL for many years and has served as a member of NACDL's White Collar Crime and Federal Sentencing committees. Johnson has also participated in the researching and drafting of amicus briefs on behalf of NACDL, and currently serves as NACDL's Sixth Circuit Amicus Vice-Chair. He is a Past President of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, served as Associate General Counsel for the Tennessee Bar Association and chaired its Criminal Justice Section for three years, co-chairs the Technology and Law Office Management Committee of the Knoxville Bar Association, and is on faculty with the Tennessee Criminal Defense College. The Tennessee Bar Association awarded him its Access to Justice Award for his dedication to volunteer work.

Johnson earned his bachelor's degree from Carson-Newman University, a graduate degree in economics from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence with honors from the University of Tennessee College of Law. Mr. Johnson is also graduate of the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, GA.
