Washington, DC (August 25, 2014) – Moorestown, N.J. Attorney William H. Buckman was sworn in as Treasurer of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) at the Association’s 57th annual meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on August 2.
William H. Buckman currently serves as the president and attorney at the William H. Buckman Law Firm. He is certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Criminal Trial Attorney and is also a seasoned civil rights lawyer. From 2010 to 2011, he was president of NACDL’s affiliate, the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey. Buckman has received numerous awards, including the Mary Philbrook Award for Public Interest Law from Rutgers School of Law, the Roger Baldwin Award from the ACLU of New Jersey, the Justice Award from the Black Ministers Counsel of New Jersey, the President’s Justice Award from the NAACP Gloucester County Chapter of New Jersey, as well as two separate awards as Professional Lawyer of the Year from the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law.
Buckman joined NACDL in 1987, after attending the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia and is now a Life Member of the Association. Buckman has served NACDL as co-chair of the Long Range Planning and Prosecutorial Misconduct Committees and as chair of the Budget and Audit Committees. He has also served as a member of the E-Discovery Task Force and the Forensic Sciences, Sex Offender Policy, National Security, and Nominating Committees. He is the Third Circuit Representative for NACDL’s Lawyer Assistance Strike Force. Buckman has served on the Board of Trustees for the Foundation for Criminal Justice for five years. Buckman has lectured extensively around the country on behalf of the NACDL and other organizations to help train criminal defense lawyers in various subjects, such as cross examination, mounting racial profiling challenges, and civil rights.
Buckman received his B.S. from Stockton State College in 1974. He attended Rutgers University School of Law, Camden, where he obtained his J.D. in 1978.
