Washington, DC (Feb 3, 2025) – Christopher Wellborn, president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, awarded the organization’s Champion of Justice Award to Victor Sherman and Stanley Greenberg during the 2025 Advanced Criminal Law Seminar in Aspen, Colorado. NACDL bestows the Champion of Justice Award upon individuals who — through legislative, journalistic, philanthropic, or humanitarian pursuits — have staunchly preserved or defended the constitutional rights of individuals and have endeavored to ensure justice and due process for persons accused of crime.
“One of the greatest pleasures that any NACDL president has is to honor those who have made exceptional contributions to our organization,” Wellborn said as he presented the award on February 3. Sherman and Greenberg have sponsored the Advanced Criminal Law Seminar for decades, helping NACDL create a multiday event focusing on discussions of weighty and complex topics that impact people accused of crime and their advocates. The annual Aspen event features the most energizing and informed voices in criminal defense. Practitioners from around the nation always leave the conference with practical tips to help them seek justice for their clients.
“It is my great fortune to be president at a moment and at the most fitting location to honor Victor Sherman and Stanley Greenberg, who are the heart and soul of the Advanced Criminal Law Seminar,” Wellborn said. “Because of the tireless work and personal sacrifice of Victor and Stan, we can enjoy what lawyers have recognized for over 40 years as the gold standard for training and exchange of ideas in criminal defense practice. I am thrilled to confer this long overdue award on behalf of an incredibly grateful NACDL.”
